Blocked Drains in Freshwater, Cleared Properly

Freshwater carries a strict building rule from the 1930s. Warringah Council decreed that new houses in the suburb had to be brick.

Plenty of those solid pre-war homes are still standing, tucked along Lawrence and Albert Streets near the village shops.

The rule shaped more than the streetscape. Drainage laid under and around those original houses is largely from the same era, and it wasn't built for the tree cover that's grown up since.
